About the CPD course
This learning module summarises the evidence for the efficacy of steroids at inducing remission in ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. It synthesises recommendations for using intravenous, oral, or topical preparations of different steroids according to patient history and presentation, such as whether a flare is mild-to-moderate disease or acute and severe. Completing the module will help reinforce best practice on how to minimise common adverse effects and steroid-refractory or steroid-dependent disease, such as minimising long-term use; bridging to a steroid-sparing agent early; and monitoring blood pressure, body mass index, as well as co-prescribing calcium and vitamin D in longer-term use.
