Healthcare-associated infections (HCAI) are a serious issue in healthcare settings and are becoming increasingly difficult to treat as bacteria become more and more resistant to antibiotics. They are preventable: though: if infection prevention measures are taken. Identifying patients who are vulnerable to contracting HCAIs AND ensuring vigorous compliance with evidence-based interventions are key steps to reducing infections (Ferreira et al: 2017). This course reviews the standard precautions for infection prevention and control and aligns with the Subject 6 learning outcomes in the Core Skills Training Framework. It is aimed at all healthcare staff who provide direct patient care: based upon role and local risk assessment.
