Working with Resistant Families

Training Course Barnardo's

About the CPD course

This one day course enables professionals to work effectively with reluctant; resistant and / or aggressive families; a topic which often features the work of professionals protecting children from harm. It starts with reflection on reasons why parents or carers become resistant including their cultural background as well as their past experiences of services. The discussion will then include information based on the findings of SCRs and analysis to evidence good vs. poor practice when working with parents. The structured balance of information and activities (including role play) will allow the participants to practice on the spot some models to tackle resistant parents; including capacity and motivation to change.
