The future of university and business collaboration: developing world class public-private partnerships

  • Brain Can Do

    Music to my ears

Join Mark Richards; Senior Deputy Head Academic at Queen Anne’s School to explore; What is music analysis? What do we listen out for in music? How does the brain; mind and ear engage in systematic forms of music analysis? This seminar will offer an opportunity to address these questions by engaging in a detailed analysis of several musical scores. In this session we will also develop the work of David Huron: Sweet Anticipation in Music and the Psychology of Expectation with a focus on the ITPRA Theory of Expectation – a mnemonic for the sequence of five expectation-related responses: imagination response; tension response; prediction response; reaction response and appraisal response. The ability to read music in this session would be beneficial.

  • Mental Health and Mindfulness for Schools

This event focuses on mental health and mindfulness in adolescence. The main themes of the event are: the science and psychology of mental health; the adolescent brain; barriers and strategies for tackling mental health in adolescence; inclusivity; mental health first aid; mindfulness (discussion and practical activity; and an introduction to the mindfulness toolkit); and research collaboration opportunities. Delegates will walk away from this event with useful information and psychological tools to use in schools; and confidently with Birmingham City University as an active working partner in enhancing wellbeing in your school.

    The Virtual SEND Conference

Our virtual SEND Conference will be broadcast online on 8th November. It’s aimed at supporting teachers of children with SEND to provide training and information at a fraction of the cost of a physical conference. It facilitates the sharing of knowledge within settings and supports teachers with useable downloads. Useful content will be at a classroom level; with tips from like-minded professionals; for the everyday challenges SENCOs and teachers face in helping children with SEND. The virtual SEND conference removes the barriers that schools face regarding costs and time issues in attending physical conferences.
