Bettercare Skills is an independent CPD accredited training provider in health and social care based in Oxford. We specialise in providing training and development, with care courses designed to help the social care workforce become competent in community and care settings. We also offer the nationally recognised Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), previously known as an NVQ Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults) accredited by the NOCN awarding body. The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), previously known as an NVQ guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce as required by the Quality Care Commission (CQC) in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland. The qualifications are designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others, in a broad range of health or social care settings.

    The course is designed to provide people working in health and social care settings with knowledge to meet the conditions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA);and other appropriate legislations; which will provide them with the information needed to ensure a safe working environment by outlining the benefits and legal requirements of adopting effective health and safety measures in the workplace. Employees will become aware of potential risks in the workplace; their responsibilities; and those of their co-workers and employers; together with the legal requirements for reporting and recording incidents and accidents – (RIDDOR).

It will ensure those working with sensitive and personal data are aware of their responsibilities; and have an understanding of how to work in accordance to the law. Staff will learn how;when and to whom sensitive information can be shared or withheld at any point in time.     The course has been created to support participants with information to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Act 1990; The Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995. It covers an introduction to food safety and hygiene; the impact of foodborne illness; food safety hazards and contamination; food poisoning; preservation; storage and temperature control; personal hygiene; hygienic premises and equipment and Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). Staff involved in food handling will have the knowledge of how to recognise and support good nutrition; fluid intake and food allergens (14 food allergens) as outlined by Food Standard Agency.

How to respond safely to the occurrence of fire; communicate effectively with the Emergency Services; quickly and safely evacuate a building.
