This lecture gives the delegates a through explanation of the anatomical factors that stabilise the shoulder and also the different injuries that occur to the stabilising structures when dislocations of the shoulder occur. A guide through the history of treatment for shoulder instability is given dating back from Hippocrates to the present day. The modern day rationale for deciding how to surgically treat recurrent shoulder instability is given. Clear demonstrations of the common shoulder stabilisation operations are provided including intraoperative photos and videos.
