This training enables the students to be a competent phlebotomist. The phlebotomy training course is a 2-3 day course. The course is divided into 2 parts. The first part is the theory which consists of the theory behind the phlebotomy being taught to the students with practice of blood taking on dummy arms. This enables the students to achieve a certificate of attendance and be eligible to attend the second part for competence. The second part is not mandatory but allows the students to practice blood taking on real patients under supervision in a NHS authorised premises. This gives them the competence to practice phlebotomy certificate.
