CPD Certification for further learning

The CPD Certification Service evaluate further learning activities to the highest standards. Hundreds of thousands of professionals recognise our CPD Certified symbol as the qualitative benchmark that, not only reflects but also sets those standards. The CPD Certification Service supports the Continuing Professional Development policies of institutional and professional bodies on an increasingly international basis.

CPD submissions are assessed and certified against the universally accepted structured checklist which The CPD Certification Service has developed over the past 25 years. Our CPD quality marks are protected by international copyright legislation. The certification process takes an impartial and objective overview of structure and value to ensure full conformity to CPD guidelines.

Organisations far and wide use CPD certification to support further learning

Remit of The CPD Certification Service

Most professional bodies will publish a CPD requirements plan for their members. Generally, however, they will not be prescriptive as to the topics required as the onus for personal further learning is left in the hands of each individual.

Employers, on the other hand, may often take a more defined approach to skills enhancement within their particular business. Neither group will tend to evaluate or dictate the quality of proposed CPD material.

The CPD Certification Service provides a practical solution through a rigorous and impartial assessment process which has been established from the outset.

The CPD Service’s recognised and authoritative CPD Member and CPD Certified symbols offer professional bodies, institutional associations, educational providers and consumers alike reassurance that the certified further learning materials achieve the qualitative standards required by all parties.

Background / History of CPD

The concept of CPD can broadly trace its roots to the decades following World War II when institutional bodies identified a need for structured further learning post formal qualification. Up until this point, it had largely been assumed that qualified professionals would identify and initiate their knowledge enhancement requirements on a casual or voluntary basis.

However, in an increasingly litigious and technologically advancing business and professional environment, the need became apparent for a more disciplined and structured approach to further learning. Over the past two decades, this commitment to CPD has spread beyond those affiliated to institutional bodies and is now embraced throughout all sectors.

CPD is widely recognised within the NHS to enable healthcare individuals to maintain training levels and enhance their professional development. NHS Supply Chain uses CPD to work with our colleagues in the wider NHS and share knowledge and expertise.
