About the CPD course

A course for nurses who want to undertake cervical cytology screening. The course comprises of 2 face to face study days which cover the relevant theory and practice at obtaining cervical samples on a manikin. This is followed by a period of supervised practice with a nurse mentor and a final assessment by an external accessor to ensure competency in cervical cytology is achieved. Students are provided with a competency assessment package to complete. The course adheres to the NHS Cervical Screening Programme Guidance for the training of cervical sample takers (PHE 2020).
