About the CPD course
This course provides probation officers working in approved premises with essential skills to manage and de-escalate conflict effectively and safely. Using a trauma-informed approach; participants will explore techniques such as motivational interviewing; active listening; and setting professional boundaries; all geared toward working with individuals who may display challenging behaviours. The course also covers the impact of hypervigilance; distress tolerance; and neurodiversity on behaviour; helping officers respond empathetically while maintaining safety. Through case studies; role-playing; and risk assessment strategies; this training equips probation staff to foster a respectful and supportive environment; ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
