    An introductory course to Personality Disorders looking at the DSM IV and ICD:10 diagnosis criteria and types of personality disorder. Learners will gain an understanding of the three clusters and how people will present in each group. The course will also cover the treatment options available.

    This course will consider the impact of Dementia including an overview of some different types of the condition and how this manifests in behavioural; cognitive and physical changes for the people who develop it. The course will also ask learners to consider practical ways of supporting those with Dementia to minimise distress and confusion and promote best practice within the workplace.

  • Diabetes Awareness

    This course is designed to increase knowledge and understanding of diabetes and the way in which it impacts on someone’s life. This will include looking at what constitutes a healthy diet; the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; risk factors and treatment options.

  • Epilepsy Awareness

    This course is designed to give learners an introduction to the topic of Epilepsy – including important first aid procedures – to increase their confidence when supporting those with the condition. The course considers the ways in which epilepsy can impact on someone’s life as well as the biological and neurological factors at work.

  • Personality Disorder Awareness

    This course will ask learners to consider what personality is and where it comes from; as well as in what ways personality can be considered ‘disordered’. It will look at the clinical definition of PD; the ways in which this diagnosis manifests and the particular challenges this group of people often face.

  • Self-Harm

    The aim of this course is to introduce learners to the concept of self-harm; what it is and the reasons why someone might self-harm in the care setting. It will look at the risk factors that make self-harm more likely; as well as protective factors that can help reduce it.

  • A basic introduction to autism and autistic people

    This half day session is very much at the start of a training pathway for understanding autism and the varied ways it impacts on individuals who have a diagnosis.. The areas of the diagnostic criteria for autism are explored briefly. With an improved understanding some of the positive ways of working with autistic individuals to ensure they lead fulfilling and rewarding lives are outlined. Participants are asked to identify ways that they may need to work differently with a greater awareness of autism.

    This is a whole day’s training to build on the half day introduction to autism and to support those who attend to become more autism aware. The aim is for participants to be able to recognise and respond to autistic people with a level of understanding that influences and impacts upon their own working practice. It will lead them towards an understanding of what it is to work in an autism friendly way.

This course teaches us how to clearly perceive thoughts; physical sensations; emotions and events at the moment they occur without reacting in an automatic or habitual way. This helps staff in health and social care think and react appropriately to situations with a broader understanding of why they are doing it.
