Presented by Mike Robinson; Plant Health & Seeds Inspector at the Animal and Plant Health Agency; Defra. This biosecurity 'crash course' focuses solely on those aspects of biosecurity that have relevance for the garden designer; landscaper; property developer; or anyone involved in the specification; sourcing or handling of plants on a planting site. Topics covered include: key pests and diseases to be watching for; and what to look for; regions in the UK currently affected by these pests and diseases and implications if you are planting in one of these areas; current regulations for importing stock etc.; especially in light of Brexit; and how to keep updated; reporting requirements/protocol if one of these pest and diseases are found on your job site.
In 2012 we officially opened three gardens at our nursery to delight and inspire our visitors. Probably the only garden of its kind in the country, Planning for Planting has been designed to help visitors more easily visualise the logistical side of the tree buying process. The garden displays examples of different access conditions, staking system options, and irrigation and watering solutions. Add uplifting landscaping and a take-away planning guide, and 'the boring technical bit' becomes – quite literally -a walk in the park.
