Being Fair; Getting it Right â Criminal Records; Recruitment and Employment
21 Nov 2023
About the event
This in-person Seminar will spotlight the roles that NIACRO; agencies and employers can play to collectively support people with convictions to gain meaningful employment; and through this to reduce offending and benefit NI society. At NIACRO we believe that people’s previous convictions should not become an insurmountable barrier to future employment and associated settled lifestyles. We know that they experience many barriers and that often these are borne out of common perceptions and concern. This Seminar will introduce employers to the benefits of considering employing people with convictions; and we NIACRO can support employers to develop fair recruitment processes.

NIACRO
NIACRO is Northern Ireland’s leading voluntary organisation working with the criminal justice system for 50 years to reduce crime and its impact on people and communities. We support over 5,500 people annually, including adults with convictions in prison and in the community, children and young people at risk of offending and families affected by imprisonment. We have considerable expertise in advice-giving concerning criminal records and disclosure, early intervention, rehabilitation and restorative practices. We support others working in the sector with training, advice and guidance. Our work has been recognised through the Howard League for Penal Reform, Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland, IIP, IIC and IIV.
