Accelerating writing progress using poetry with The Literacy Place
27 Mar 2024
About the event
In this practical workshop; Louise and Sheena will introduce some research based; high impact teaching strategies and share short poetry lessons that can be differentiated across all class levels. To support students to accelerate progress in writing; we need to explicitly teach writing skills and plan opportunities for them to complete quality pieces of writing that are reviewed and celebrated. Poetry is a useful genre to do this as writing tasks are short; creative; and rich in vocabulary and literary devices. The skills learned in poetry writing can easily be transferred to other writing forms.
Supporting schools and libraries for over 90 years, we publish and sell award-winning children’s books and education resources. We believe that independent reading is a critical part of children’s learning and growth. With support from teachers, parents and schools, children choose from Scholastic the books they want to read, and discover the pleasure and power of reading.
