When the Body Speaks: Conversion Disorder and Beyond
18 Jul 2024
About the event
The hard problem of consciousness asks: "How do bodily processes become subjective experiences?" In conversion disorder (previously called ‘hysteria’; now called functional neurological disorder; or ‘FND’) the question is reversed: "How do subjective experiences become bodily disorders?” The aim of this important congress is to engage psychoanalysts; psychotherapists; psychiatrists; neurologists -- and all others treating and investigating this disorder -- in a conversation about the role of emotional life in its pathogenesis and treatment. Through clinical and research reports; innovative methods and findings; we will attempt to achieve an integrated understanding of this intriguing body/mind connection.
The Neuropsychoanalysis Association is an international network of non-profit organizations that support a dialogue between the neurosciences and psychoanalysis. Based in New York City, London, and Cape Town, we provide resources for clinicians, researchers, students, and the general public, including our journal, conferences, research grants, and educational programs.
