The NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Respiratory Infections, partnered with the UK Health Security Agency, is a centre-of-excellence designing, conducting and sharing internationally leading multidisciplinary health protection research to protect and improve public health through better application of cost-effective public health interventions, particularly for vulnerable populations. Our remit includes a responsive research capacity in the event of a major health protection incident. Our strategy is driven by three fundamental principles: 1. Addressing respiratory infections with greatest public health impact. 2. Prioritising prevention to control the spread of infections, reducing antibiotic-resistance and ensuring cost-effectiveness. 3. Reducing health inequalities.
