Supporting LGBT+ People at risk of Suicide.

Workshop ELOP LGBT Mental Health & Wellbeing

About the CPD course

Risk of suicide is higher for people in LGBTQ+ communities. Discrimination; isolation and barriers to affirmative healthcare increase suicide risk. Rejection from family members and friends leads to isolation if no other support networks are in place. This workshop equips practitioners to understand the unique risk factors that LGBTQ+ face and develop the skills and confidence to support LGBTQ+ people through a suicidal episode. You will gain an understanding of: Attitudes and assumptions; What causes suicidal ideation; Additional risk factors for LGBTQ+ people; Signs that someone is at risk; How to implement a safety plan.
